CM Highlights Collectors’ Key Role, Shares Police Misbehaviour Experience

Bhubaneswar, (DMC) : Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi emphasized the crucial role of district collectors in implementing government schemes and reaching out to the people during the two-day District Collectors’ conference in Bhubaneswar beginning today. He highlighted that collectors are often seen as the government’s representatives in districts, excluding Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, and therefore have a significant responsibility to meet people’s expectations. Majhi said, “Collectors play a vital role in implementing government schemes and resolving daily life problems at the district level. Successful implementation of government schemes lies in the hands of collectors, which will help eradicate poverty and bring smiles to underprivileged people.” CM also emphasized the importance of interdepartmental coordination to kick start stalled projects. To ensure effective implementation, Collectors are urged to conduct field visits and monitor the status of schemes. Majhi shared his 27- year journey in politics, from sarpanch to MLA, and his commitment to serving people. “For the past 27 years, I’ve been dedicated to public service, starting from my humble beginnings as a sarpanch to my current role as Chief Minister. Throughout my journey, I’ve remained committed to understanding and addressing the concerns of our citizens. Even as Chief Minister, people continue to approach me with their grievances. As someone who has always aspired to make a difference through government service, I’m proud to have had the opportunity to serve. Moving forward, I remain steadfast in my commitment to our people and will continue working tirelessly to ensure their voices are heard”, Majhi maintained. On this occasion, Majhi shared a personal experience of mistreatment by a police officer in Keonjhar. This incident occurred just a couple of months before the 2024 elections. Majhi recounted how he rushed to the scene after learning that locals had blocked NH 20 due to drinking water issues. Upon arriving at the police station, the Inspector-In-Charge (IIC) shouted at him and ordered him to leave, claiming that as a candidate, he had no right to be there. Majhi stressed the urgent need to curb illegal mining and liquor trade. Emphasizing zero tolerance, CM asserted that the government will take stern action against these activities. On this occasion, the CM announced that the government will provide Rs 3100 per quintal for paddy procurement, exceeding the Centre’s Minimum Support Price (MSP) by approximately Rs 800. This increased rate will incentivize farmers to sell their paddy. However, the Chief Minister cautioned against the smuggling of paddy from neighbouring states and advised Collectors, especially those in border districts, to remain vigilant and prevent such activities. Majhi announced that the new paddy procurement scheme will commence from Sohela under the new MSP. He also advised government officials to give due respect to elected public representatives as per Book Circular 47. Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo emphasized the importance of swift decision-making in implementing schemes for effective governance. He stressed the crucial role of district collectors in this regard. Additionally, Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida praised collectors for their support in launching the Subhadra Scheme, a key government programme. She noted that district collectors can resolve people’s issues at the grassroots level, contributing to the development of Odisha.CM Highlights Collectors' Key Role, Shares Police Misbehaviour Experience
