Chennai : A total of 74.37 per cent turn out was recorded in the first phase of polling to rural local bodies in nine newly carved districts of Tamil Nadu held yesterday.
Officials of the Tamil Nadu State Election Commission (TNSEC) today said over 70 per cent polling was registered in more than six districts.
The approximate polling percentage was Villupuram (81.36), Ranipet (81), Kancheepuram (80), Tirupattur (78), Tenkasi (74), Kallakurichi (72), Tirunelveli (69), and Chengalpattu and Vellore (67 each).
The second phase of polling will be held on October nine.
