vOdisha to raise special category status: CM

Bhubaneswar, Aug 6: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has left for New Delhi on a three day visit. He is scheduled to attend the special National Committee Meeting of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav called by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to celebrate 75 years of India’s
Independence. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will attend the 7th
Governing Council Meeting of the Niti Aayog to be held
on Sunday at the Rashtrapati Bhawan. The Niti Aayog meeting is being attended by all state Chief Ministers. Important issues such as tax reforms, crop diversification, National Education Policy etc will be
discussed in the meeting. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday said he would raise the issue of Odisha’s long-standing demand
for special category status to the state in NITI Aayog
meeting tomorrow. “I will raise the long-standing demand for special
category status to the state. Odisha is facing frequent calamities like cyclones and floods. Other requirements of the state will also be discussed,” said the Chief Minister before leaving for New Delhi.
According to a statement, in the drive towards building a steady, sustainable and inclusive India, the seventh Governing Council meeting of NITI Aayog will pave the way for synergies towards a new era of collaboration and cooperation between the Centre and states/Union Territories.
