Talcher, : Shri G. Kishan Reddy, Hon’ble Union Minister for Coal & Mines, Government of India, chaired a review meeting of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday. The Minister commended Team MCL for their unwavering efforts in ensuring energy security to the nation. The meeting centered on reviewing the company’s operations and exploring strategies to enhance performance. During the meeting, Shri Uday Anant Kaole, Chairmancum-Managing Director, MCL, presented a comprehensive overview of the company’s performance, highlighting its operational achievements, challenges, future prospects and emerging opportunities. The Minister praised the ongoing progress of the company and expressed his confidence on team MCL for working towards the vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister’s “Atmanirbhar Bharat” in coal sector.He emphasized the importance of leveraging the Rail-Sea-Rail mode for coal transportation to ensure reliable supply and strengthen the logistics infrastructure. He also stressed the need to accelerate progress on First Mile Connectivity (FMC) projects, diversification initiatives, IT & AI integration in coal mining and green energy projects to support India’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions.Further, Shri Reddy advised prioritizing the reclamation and redevelopment of abandoned mines and ensuring the effective execution of progressive mine closure
activities. He also underscored the importance of promoting gender diversity in the coal industry and urged to accelerate the enrollment of contractual workers in the company’s corporate banking scheme to strengthen employee welfare.The meeting was attended by Shri P M Prasad, Chairman-Coal India Limited, Smt.
