New Delhi: The securitycover of External AffairsMinister S Jaishankar has beenupgraded from the ‘Y’ category
to ‘Z’, official sources saidtoday. The Union HomeMinistry has asked the CentralReserve Police Force (CRPF)to take the charge of hissecurity, currently provided bythe Delhi Police, they said.Mr Jaishankar, 68, was being guarded by an armed team of theDelhi Police under the ‘Y’category security cover.He will now be protected bythe CRPF under the larger ‘Z’category security cover whichentails about 14-15 armedcommandos moving with himround the clock in shifts acrossthe country, the sources toldPress Trust of India.The CRPF’s VIP securitycover has 176-odd protectees at
present, including Union HomeMinister Amit Shah andCongress leaders Sonia Gandhi,Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka
Gandhi Vadra.
