Kushinagar : Sri Lankan Minister of Youth and Sports Namal Rajapaksa, along with a delegation comprising over 100 Buddhist monks, arrived at the Kushinagar International Airport on the inaugural flight from Colombo today.
Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla was at the airport to receive the Sri Lankan delegation.
The airport is due to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The sacred Kapilavastu relics of Waskaduwa are also being carried on the flight.
The delegation also includes the Anunayaka Thero of the Asgiri Chapter Most Venerable Wendaruwe Upali Thero and 95 members of the Maha Sangha.
Kushinagar is considered to be a focal point of the Buddhist Circuit in India and the new international airport is likely to strengthen people-to-people interactions between India and Sri Lanka substantially.
