Son Arrested for Thrashing Mother

Keonjhar: Keonjhar police arrested a man on Sunday allegedly thrashed his 70 years old mother and tied in an electric pole outside his house suspecting her to have stolen a cauliflower from his farmland in Odisha’s Keonjhar district. Police arrested the accused after receiving a complaint from the victim. The shocking incident has been reported from Saraspasi village under Champua police limits. The victim old woman is identified as Subhadra Mahanta, Later she was rescued by local police and admitted in Basudevpur community health centre for treatment. The accused is identified as Satrughan, younger son of Subhadra. Sources said that Bhuturam Mohanta, husband of Subhadra died about ten years back. She is staying with her elder son Karuna. After the death of her elder son Karuna she was staying alone with widow daughter in law. Her younger son Satrughan was staying separately along with his family. On Wednesday Satrughan found some cauliflowers in his farmland. She suspects her mother behind it. He had beaten her mother in the house. On Friday he became violent and thrashed her outside of the house and allegedly tied in an electric pole, despite the protest of villagers. Despite several requests, Satrughan could not show pity and was inhumanly beaten and tied in the electric pole, sources added. The wife of Shatrughan also attacked her in the hospital after admission, but medical staff restricted her to do so. Sarada alleged that “her younger son has thrashed her and later tied her with alleging that I have stolen cauliflowers from his farmland. Despite several requests he could not hear me and attacked brutally. When her elder daughter in law tried to help her, they also attacked her and frightened”. After the incident Keonjhar police arrested the accused Satrughan and sent to court for his inhuman act. Trinath Sethy, IIC Champua said “after receiving a complaint from the victim, the accused son is arrested and sent to court.”
