Guwahati, June 23 ( DumaniMail) There is a slight improvement in the overall flood situation in Assam.
However, Silchar in south Assam’s Barak Valley remained submerged, even 48 hours after an embankment breach.
Families continue to be stranded in their waterlogged homes, and the town is facing a massive shortage of food and drinking water. Electricity has also been cut off in several parts of the town.
Assam State Disaster Management Authority said that over 55 lakh have been affected.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will visit worst-hit Barak valley in the afternoon.
He has said that the government will soon roll out a relief package for the flood-affected people.
