Sitharaman urges industries to engage with state govts

New Delhi, June 30 (DumaniMail) Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday urged industries to interact with respective state governments to sort out their issues. ‘I appeal to industries to engage with the state governments. When industries approach the state governments and continuously engage with them, state governments do come around even if they have difficulties in taking steps. Industries have a big role to play,’ she said after unveiling the Business Reforms Action Plan (BRAP) 2020 assessment report. She said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is interacting periodically and has been accessible and this indicates that the government is ready to listen and take steps. Appreciating states, she said now states believe in healthy competition among themselves and are not averse to reforms. ‘Best practices of some states have now been documented so well that it is easy for policy makers and some of the states to adopt them,’ she said.

Ms Sitharaman said many steps taken during the pandemic and before that are bearing fruits and it is being seen that there is an appetite for things to change. She stressed on capacity building in government departments, not at the central level but at the state and district level too. The minister said unlike the 90s, the reforms are not being imposed and there is no compulsion. She appreciated the state government for working together and sharing inputs which helped in higher GST collection.
