Security tightened ahead of President’s four-day UP visit

Lucknow : The Uttar Pradesh police have made elaborate security arrangements ahead of President Ram Nath Kovind’s four-day visit from Thursday.

Mr Kovind would be staying at the Rajbhawan, officials said here on Wednesday.

UP Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will accompany the President to all the functions he is scheduled to attend during his stay.

The President is likely to be accompanied by his wife and other family members. He will be the first President to visit the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.

According to the official programme, the President will commence his tour, by attending the ninth convocation of the Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Central University here tomorrow.

On August 27, he will participate in the diamond jubilee celebrations of Captain Manoj Kumar Pandey UP Sainik School in Sarojninagar area of the state capital.

Mr Kovind, during his visit to the country’s pioneer institution, will unveil a six-foot-tall bronze statue of former UP chief minister Sampurnanand, founder of Sainik School in 1960. He will also inaugurate a 1,000 capacity auditorium named after Sampurnanand.

He will also lay the foundation stone for a 115 capacity girl’s hostel besides a design project that aims to double the students’ strength from existing 450 cadets to 900. Under the project, foundation stones will be laid for the administrative block, cadet mess, academic block and a hostel.

On August 28, the President will leave for Gorakhpur, where he will lay the foundation of UP ‘s first Ayush University and also inaugurate a hospital of the Gorakhnath University. He will return to Lucknow the same day.

The next day, he will go to Ayodhya on a special Presidential train and offer prayers at the Ram Janmabhoomi temple. He will return to Lucknow by train on the same day.

Mr Kovind is expected to return to the National Capital the next morning.
