New Delhi : Rajya Sabha on Monday congratulated Mirabai Chanu for winning the first medal (silver) in Tokyo Olympics and her spectacular performance.
Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu said that weightlifter Chanu, an epitome of hard work, grit and determination, will not only boost the morale of Indian sportspersons participating in the Olympics but also inspire budding sportspersons.
The Chairman wished Chanu all success in her future endeavours and bringing many more laurels for the country.
As the Upper House assembled for the day, it paid glowing tribute to the brave soldiers for their supreme sacrifice during Kargil war in 1999. As mark of respect to all those who laid their lives, the Members stood in silence.
On the 22nd anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, the Chairman said that the brave soldiers had brought momentous victory by going beyond their call of duty.
He said that the brave soldiers will continue to inspire generations for dedicating their lives for the cause of the nation.
Soon after this, the House was adjourned to meet at 1200 hrs amid Opposition uproar.
