Chennai : To commemorate the 75th Anniversary of India’s Independence,the Railway Board will operate a special UNESCO heritage site of Nilgiris Mountain Railway (NMR) train between Mettupalayam and Udhagamandalam on October two as part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’.
The one way train, ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ Special Train will leave Mettupalayam at 0910 hrs. Enroute to Udagamandalam, the train will have only one stoppage at Coonoor.
The Special Train will reach Coonoor at 1230 hrs. It will leave Coonoor at 1255 hrs and reach Udagamandalam at 1425 hrs on that day.
The train will have four coaches, offering 72 First Class Seats and 100 Second Class seats.
The fares for travel by the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ Special Train are the same as that of the NMR weekly Special Train.
The fare From Mettupalayam to Coonoor is Rs.1,100 in First Class; Rs.800 in Second Class,From Mettupalayam to Udhagamandalam Rs.1,450 in First Class; Rs.1,050 in Second Class.
From Coonoor to Udhagamandalam Rs.550 in First Class; Rs.450 in Second Class.
The fares are excluding GST and reservation charges, a Southern Railway release said here today.
Advance Reservations for travel by ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ Special Train are open.
