Bhubaneswar : Odisha reported 69 COVID-19 related deaths in the past 24 hours taking the total toll in the state to 6,435.
Earlier on three occasions in July, the state reported 69 fatalities and again on August 2 and on August 7 the daily covid toll jumped to 69,sending a signal of no let up the covid fatalities in the state since last one month.
Since July 8 last, over 60 covid patients have been succumbing to the virus daily although there has been a dip in the number of new infections in the state.
Health and Family Welfare department sources said out of 69 deaths reported in the past 24 hours Khordha district has accounted for a maximum 21 deaths followed by Cuttack(13) and six each in Balasore and Sundargarh.
The two coastal districts – Khordha and Cuttack alone registered 63.7 percent of the fatalities recorded in the past 24 hours.
On the other hand, during the period 1,243 new covid cases were recorded from 30 districts in the state taking the total covid tally to 9,87,080.
The recovery surged to 9,68,453 after 1525 people were cured from the virus and the active cases in the state further reduced to 12,129.
Khordha district has the highest number of 3996 active cases followed by Cuttack ( 1513). The other 28 districts have reported less than 1000 cases.
Both Khordha and Cuttack have together reported 45.4 percent of the total active cases in the state.
Meanwhile, the Test Positivity Rate (TPR) of the state continued to remain below 2 per cent for the last three days. It was, however, marginally increased from 1.64 per cent to 1.79 per cent in the past 24 hours.
However, for the fourth consecutive day all the 30 districts in the state witnessed TPR less than 5 per cent. The highest TPR of 4.1 per cent was recorded from Khordha district while as many as 17 districts in the state recorded TPR less than one per cent.
