Odisha: 17 proposals get cabinet nod

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Cabinet Meeting today took 16 major decisions relating to the departments of
A g r i c u l t u r e a n d F a r m e r ’s Empowerment, Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water, Planning and
Convergence, Revenue and Disaster Management, Steel and Mines, and Water Resources. The State Cabinet meeting was chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. Minister Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water, Forest and Environment and Information and Public Relations Sri Pradeep Kumar Amat and Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mahapatra briefed the press about the decisions taken in the meeting for information of the people. The major decisions included a Special Programme for the promotion of millets in tribal areas; execution of 4 pipe water supply projects in Dhenkanal district; 3 pipe water supply projects in Kendrapara district; and execution of 2 pipe water supply projects in Balasore district. The financial bid for Khalpal in-stream storage structures across river Brahmani; community harnessing and harvesting of rainwater; cyclone resilient saline embankment projects, and construction of barrage cum bridge across river Koel also got cabinet nod. The Cabinet also approved the proposal for the creation of additional posts in Odisha Revenue Service group -B cadre. The State Government has planned for raising and strengthening of 36 number of saline embankments measuring total length of 198.81 km to cyclone resilient standards. This will ensure sustaining the impact of very severe cyclone with speeds upto 250 km/hr and to protect the adjacent landmass and habitation from floods, saline ingress and tidal surge of Bay of Bengal. The project will be undertaken in 4 cyclone prone coastal districts of Odisha – Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara and Puri. The Cabinet today approved the scheme “Cyclone Resilient Saline Embankment Projects” to be executed during the period from FY:2022-23 to 2024-25 with an outlay of Rs.763.48 Crore. Upon completion of the projects, about 21,690 Ha of agricultural land will be protected from flood and saline ingress and 2,92,500 people in 136 no of villages in the above districts will be benefitted.
