Itanagar : In a record of sorts, the National Board for Wildlife (NBWL), a statutory body constituted by the Central Government under Section 5A of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, has approved 13 project proposals of the Arunachal Pradesh Government to propel development in the frontier state.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav and said the approved projects will benefit the local economy and bolster defence capabilities at borders.
The projects receiving NBWL’s nod were of a road, two transmission lines, nine proposals from Defence for construction of Border Outpost (BOP) of ITBP in Dibang Valley district and one for Defence for Tunnel and approach road.
Taking to Twitter, Khandu wrote: “People of Arunachal Pradesh are extremely grateful to Hon PM Shri @narendramodi Ji & Hon Union Min Shri @byadavbjp Ji for approval of 13 development projects by the National Board of Wildlife. This will immensely benefit local economy and bolster defence capabilities at borders.”
The projects include Improvement/upgradation of Pakke-Seijosa-ltakhola road (62 km) under NEC scheme at East Kameng District of Arunachal Pradesh over an area of 30.99 ha in Pakke Tiger Reserve’, ‘Diversion of 26.85 ha of forest land from Namdapha Tiger Reserve for construction of 33 KV Miao-Diyun Distribution Line’, ‘Diversion of 4.5 ha of forest land from Namdapha Tiger Reserve for construction of 33 KV Miao-Kharsang Distribution Line, Arunachal Pradesh’ and ‘Proposal for use of 2.64 ha for wildlife clearance of Nechipu Tunnel with approach road in Sessa Orchid Sanctuary, Arunachal Pradesh’.
