‘NATO prepared for Ukraine crisis ahead of invasion’

Brussels, June 30 (Dumanimail) NATO was preparing for the Ukrainian crisis long before the start of Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine, and was increasing its presence in the east, Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said after the first say of the NATO summit in Madrid. On February 24, President Vladimir Putin said that the special operation in Ukraine was a forced measure, Russia “was left no chance to do otherwise, such security risks were created that it was impossible to respond by other means.” According to him, Russia has been trying for 30 years to agree with NATO on the principles of security in Europe, but in response it has faced either cynical deceit and lies, or pressure and blackmail attempts, while the North Atlantic alliance, despite Moscow’s protests, has been steadily expanding and approaching the Russian borders. “We have actually prepared for this possibility for a long time. It’s not as if NATO suddenly woke up on the 24th of February… We shared publicly those intelligence reports, back, last fall, and very precisely predicting that Russia was building up and planning to invade Ukraine,” Stoltenberg said. “We have also been preparing for this since 2014. Because that’s the reason why we have increased our presence in the eastern part of the Alliance, why NATO Allies have started to invest more in defense, and why we have increased the readiness,” he said.
