Nainital/Bageshwar : After the death of five Bengali tourists in Pindari glacier, the Bageshwar district administration has made it mandatory to register to visit the glaciers with a medical certificate.
The decision was taken in a meeting held on Wednesday under the leadership of District Magistrate of Bageshwar, Vineet Kumar.
In the meeting, It was decided that registration of tourists visiting glaciers is a must which will come under the responsibility of the Forest Department.
It was decided that a forest post would be set up in the marginal Khati village on behalf of the Forest Department and an account of tourists and trekkers visiting glaciers would also be kept.
Not only this, it was also agreed to develop emergency helipads at Pindari Zero Point, Khatiya and Kathaliya of Pindari Glacier. Along with this, instructions have also been given to repair the tracking route from Dhaula Bagad to Kathaliya and Dwali to Khatiya and the responsibility has been given to the Public Works Department, Forest and Tourism Department.
It has also been decided to strengthen the communication system on the tracking routes. Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam (KMVN) was directed to install satellite phones at centers namely Furkia, Dwali, Kathalia and Jaitoli so that in case of emergency, tourists can be contacted and weather information can be provided to them.
It was decided in the meeting that it would be mandatory for the tourists coming on the trek to bring their medical certificates. The certificate shall not be more than one month old. Further travel will be allowed only after producing the certificate.
It has also been made mandatory for the guide accompanying the tourists to register for the trek.
Apart from this, it has been decided to develop an app and web page for tracking, in which complete details of tourists will be recorded as well as date wise information of the tracking routes will also be recorded.
Apart from this, training in mountaineering has also been made mandatory for the police personnel so that in case of emergency, better help could be provided in the high Himalayan region.
