Launch of Reference Fuels fosters vision of AtmaNirbhar Bharat: Minister

New Delhi(PIB): “TheLaunch of Reference Fuelsproduced by Indian Oil’s Paradip& Panipat Refineries, utilizing the
intellectual talent available atIndian Oil’s Research &Development Centre, is a dynamicachievement”, said Hardeep SinghPuri, Minister of Petroleum &Natural Gas and Housing &Urban Affairs. He was speakingat the historic occasion markingthe launch of ‘Reference Gasolineand Diesel Fuels’ produced byIndian Oil for the first time inIndia. Pankaj Jain, Secretary,Ministry of Petroleum & NaturalGas and S.M. Vaidya,Chairperson, Indian Oil were also
present at the event here today.Addressing the gathering,Hardeep Singh Puri said that thisstep stamps our indigenoustechnical prowess which givesimpetus to the Make in Indiamission of the Government of
India. It is yet another initiativeto foster the AtmaNirbhar Bharatvision of our Prime Minister, henoted.The Minister said that this isthe first time that India isventuring into the production ofReference Gasoline and Diesel
Fuels. He said, the home-growndevelopment of these productsin-line with internationalbenchmarks testifies to the
brilliance and relentless hard workof Indian Oil. This achievementnot only reduces India’sdependence on imports but alsocatapults India’s energy industryto the select global players armedwith exclusive competencies, he
stressed.The Petroleum & Natural GasMinister spoke about the fourprongedenergy security strategyadopted by the Ministry ofPetroleum & Natural Gas. He saidthat the strategy guided by PrimeMinister’s vision of transformingIndia into an ‘energy-independent’nation by 2047, includes, (i)Diversification of energy supplies(ii) Increasing India’s explorationand Production footprint (iii)Alternate energy sources andmeeting energy transition throughGas based economy and (iv)Green Hydrogen and EVs.Shri Puri lauded the efforts ofOil Companies that are makingmajor strides toward fulfillingnational goals & commitmentsunder the guidance of theMinistry of Petroleum & Natural
Gas. He also mentioned about theMinistry’s efforts in the directionof clean energy especially Biofuelssection, transition to BS-VIfuels and introduction of EVcharging stations, CBG,Sustainable Aviation Fuel, Ethanol
blending, and Hydrogen fuels areto be mentioned.Calling Panipat Refinery &Petrochemicals Complex as theflag bearer of path-breakinginitiatives for enhancing IndianOil’s green agenda bycommissioning India’s first 2G &3G ethanol plants, the Ministersaid that the upcoming 10 KTAgreen hydrogen plant at Panipatwill further augment Indian Oil’sgreen energy transition. The Unitis on the cusp of a majorexpansion and it heralds apromising future for the nation’senergy industry, he added.Referring to the ParadipRefinery as the most modern andcomplex refinery of India that canprocess 100% high sulphur crudeoil, he said that the refinerymarked a major milestone when
it handled its 1000th vessel atthe south oil jetty in the recentpast.The Minister complimentedIndian Oil’s Research &
Development Centre for crossingthe milestone of filing 1500patents and winning recognitionfor decades of its pioneeringwork. “I uphold the contributionof Indian Oil R&D Centre alongwith Paradip & Panipat refineries
in the successful production ofthe reference fuel”, he said.Hardeep Singh Puriacknowledged the significantstrides made by India towardsfulfilling its aspirations for a moresustainable future. He noted thesteps undertaken for reducingemissions such as expeditedimplementation of fuel blending,moving the ambitious target of
achieving 20% blending from2030 to 2025, the sale of E20blended fuel at over 5,000 petrolretail outlets.Recalling the introduction ofgreen hydrogen fuel cell buses inDelhi recently, he said that thisconfirms our dedication to ecofriendlyalternativesGiven the status as the 5thlargest economy in the world,while maintaining equilibrium incrude oil prices; the Ministersaid, we are optimally harnessingour potential as a coveted player
in the global energy market.Highlighting the importance ofinnovation in gas&energysector,theMinistercongratulated the oil companiesfor consistently sustaininginnovation in their processesand technologies to improveproduct line for the customers.
