Jalandhar : In order to ensure a smooth and hassle-free wheat procurement season at all 137 purchase centers in Jalandhar, the district administration has ensured 84 per cent of the total payment to farmers so far in the district, said Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori on Wednesday.
He said that a whopping amount of Rs. 638.93 crore have been paid to farmers so far, who had brought their harvest in the grain markets. He added that as many as 4,43,295 metric tons (MTs) of wheat grains have arrived in the district of which a total of 4,41,892 MTs were procured within the stipulated time frame.
The DC said that the district has made 84 per cent payment against the total invoices generated while the remaining payment was being cleared at a fast pace. He said that the district administration had evolved a vibrant mechanism in the Mandis so that farmers do not face any kind of trouble to sell their golden grains.
Pointing out further, District Food and Civil Supplies Controller Narinder Singh stated that on Tuesday alone 28,329 MTs grains were procured by all the agencies, however, the total arrival today stood at 27965 metric tons. He also mentioned that the district administration was keeping a close tab over the whole procurement procedure besides ensuring sufficient availability of Bardana and other requisite inventories in advance to assist farmers amid the unprecedented crisis arising out of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The DFSC further stated that the procurement agency Markfed has purchased a total of 118215 MTs wheat crops, followed by Punsup, Pungrain, DCP, PSWC, and FCIwith a purchase of 95,436, 77,667, 50,038, 57,213, and 43323 MTs harvest by April 27.
