Rajkot: The third India vs England Test witnessed an impressive performance by Ben Duckett, the England left-handed opener, who launched an aggressive assault on Indian bowlers during the final session of Day 1 at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot. Under coach Brendon McCullum, England’s newfound aggressive Test playing style, known as ‘BazBall,’ was on full display as Duckett reached his century in just 88 balls, setting a record for the fastest hundred by an England batter against India in Test cricket. On Day 2, India resumed their innings with Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja at the crease, but the English bowlers quickly made inroads, dismissing both batsmen, and India found themselves at 331-7. However, the situation was stabilised by contributions from Dhruv Jurel, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Jasprit Bumrah, guiding India’s total to 445-10. Unfazed by India’s score, England openers Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett embraced the ‘BazBall’ approach, with Duckett showcasing his aggressive intent. While Crawley fell for Ashwin’s spin, Duckett continued his assault, effortlessly dispatching Indian spinners and pacers around the ground. His skilful sweeping off the spinners propelled him to his third Test century in just 88 balls, marking the fastest century by an English batter against India in the history of Test cricket. At the close of play on Day 2, England stand at 207-3 after 35 overs, with Duckett’s aggressive and prolific batting steering them towards a strong position in the IND vs ENG 3rd Test in Rajkot. An assertive century from Ben Duckett ensured that England finished strong at the end of the second day’s play. Earlier, legendary Australian wicket keeper batter Adam Gilchrist scored the fastest Test century against India. He had hit an 84-ball century in the first match of the three-match Test series against India at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Also, former West Indies skipper Clive Lloyd hit an 85-ball century against India in the first match of the five-match Test series at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Now, Ben Duckett has become the third fastest Test centurion against India after he completed his ton in just 88 balls on the second day of the third Test match in Rajkot.
