New Delhi : Amid infighting in Congress, Union Minister for Minority Affairs and senior BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Friday accused the Gandhi family of paralysing the grand old party.
“Family has paralysed the grand old party in a mess to make it a personal property” Naqvi said while talking to reporters here in New Delhi.
His remarks came at a time when the ruling party Congress in Punjab is undergoing a lot of political turmoil.
“While on the one hand, the grand old party has been hit by a tsunami of political crisis, on the other hand the party is suffering from frustrated feudal authority,” he added.
Calling Congress a “non-performing asset” the Minister said, “We want a strong opposition not an opposition full of contradiction and confusion”.
“Some people are trying to become chieftains of the opposition but their own party has slipped out of their hand,” he accused.
The crisis in Congress escalated on Thursday after party’s senior leader Kapil Sibal questioned the party’s functioning and attacked its leadership amid the latest political turmoil in Punjab.
Other senior leaders Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Vivek Tanha and Raj Babbar, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Anand Sharma, were among those who rallied behind Sibal.
