Patna : The Special Court of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday sentenced four convicts to death, two to rigorous life imprisonment, ten years’ rigorous imprisonment to two accused and seven years’ rigorous imprisonment to one person in the case pertaining to serial bomb blasts at the historic Gandhi Maidan and Patna Junction,
The blasts happened in Patna in 2013 during the Hunkar rally of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Narendra Modi, who was the then prime ministerial candidate.
Amid tight security, the nine accused convicted in the case, were brought to the court of Special Judge Gurvinder Singh Malhotra from Beur Jail in Patna this morning.
NIA’s Special Public Prosecutor Lalan Prasad Sinha demanded the harshest punishment for the culprits while defence advocate Syed Imran Ghani, citing the circumstances of the case and the economic and social condition of the accused, sought leniency and less punishment.
After hearing the arguments of both the sides, the court fixed the time of second shift for giving verdict. At 4 pm, the court resumed proceedings and sentenced the culprits.
