Forty-six Afghan Sikhs and Hindus being evacuated by IAF from Kabul

Kabul/New Delhi : Forty-six Afghan Hindus and Sikhs, along with some Indian nationals, are being evacuated from Kabul by an Indian Air Force plane, Puneet Singh Chandhok, president Indian World Forum, said on Monday.

Chandhok said that the Afghan Sikhs and Hindus also brought with them three Sri Guru Granth Sahibs (Sikh holy book).

“With the untiring efforts of the Government of India, specially the Ministry of External Affairs and Indian Air Force, I can confirm that the stranded Indian Nationals and 46 Afghan Hindus and Sikhs with three Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji (holy book) are currently inside the Kabul Airport.”

He said they are being escorted by the coalition forces to the Indian Air Force aircraft in Kabul’s Hamid Karzai International Airport and would be evacuated.

More will be evacuated in a few hours, he said.

On Sunday, 23 Afghan Sikhs and Hindus were brought to India on board an Indian Air Force plane, along with 107 Indian nationals. Two Afghan Sikh MPs and their families were also part of those evacuated on Sunday.
