New Delhi : Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday said Central Armed Police Forces should be trained to increase their operational skills as India is facing new challenges on its border.
The Home Minister, while addressing the 51st Foundation Day of the Bureau of Police Research and Development called upon the institution to work on it.
“The kind of challenges we are facing at the border today, BPRD should work on modernisation of CAPFs, their training, and to enhance their operational skills,” the Home Minister said, adding that the ministry can make changes in their charter if required.
“… But I think BPRD can do this. It is very important our land and sea boundaries are safe and there is no lapse,” he said.
Central Armed Police Forces is a reference to the Armed Police Forces of the Union Government under Home Ministry. Their role is to defend the national interest mainly against internal threats.
The comments come in the backdrop of Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan. India has also been facing tension along its border with China and shares stressed relations with western neighbour Pakistan, and the reemergence of Taliban has made it worse.
The Minister also said the government is bringing major changes to the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Code of Criminal Procedure, and Evidence Act.
“In the leadership of Narendra Modi, the Home Ministry is working on making many changes in the CRPC, IPC, and evidence act, undertaking many exercises. BPRD has contributed a lot to it,” Shah said.
He also mentioned other steps taken by the government including abolition of Article 370, changes made in the NIA Act, UAPA, and Arms Act.
