Srinagar : An encounter broke out between militants and security forces on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway in south Kashmir district of Kulgam Thursday afternoon.
Official sources said militants attacked a security force convoy at Malpora in Kulgam on the highway this afternoon.
Security forces, joined by Road Opening Party (ROP), returned the fire, they said adding exchange of fire was going on when the reports last came in.
Traffic on the highway has been suspended as a precautionary measure, they said adding further details are awaited.
