Empowering Women Entrepreneurs in Odisha

Bhubaneswar ,:The Subhalaxmi Udyogini Project, a transformative initiative undertaken by the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII), Ahmedabad, in partnership with Vedanta Ltd. This project aims to empower women entrepreneurs and strengthen Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in the Jharsuguda District of Odisha. With its ambitious objectives and impactful strategies, the project aspires to create a sustainable ecosystem for women-led enterprises. Launched in August 2022 as part of Vedanta Ltd.’s CSR initiative, the Subhalaxmi Udyogini Project focuses on fostering entrepreneurship and economic independence among women in three blocks surrounding Vedanta’s Jharsuguda plant. The project aims to expand the cooperative’s base to 10,000 cumulative members by the end of its tenure, ensuring a robust
network of empowered women. Focused on Achieving 100% Operational Sustainability, the project seeks to ensure the
cooperative’s long-term viability and resilience. By promoting entrepreneurship, it will map the skills and aspirations of
70% of its members, linking them to entrepreneurial opportunities and selfemployment initiatives, ultimately enhancing the income of cooperative members. In addition to providing tailored technical support in legal and policy matters, the project
seeks to expand the cooperative’s reach and visibility on national and international platforms. By aligning with governmentsponsored schemes, it aims to amplify the impact of local enterprises.As the project enters its third and final year, efforts will focus on consolidating its achievements and setting benchmarks for sustainable development, and focusing on intensive capacity building, targeted technical assistance, and broader market linkages for women-led enterprises.With its unwavering focus on women’s empowerment and community development, the project stands as a testament of collaboration between corporate entities and development organizations. As it paves the way for a more inclusive and equitable future, the project’s legacy will undoubtedly inspire similar initiatives across the country.
