Kolkata : Eastern Railway’s store’s department, Howrah depot has earned Rs 1.26 crore by selling 363.921 metric tonnes
of scrap in a single e-auction.
Last year ER had achieved the scrap disposal of Rs.304.48 crores against the Railway Board’s set target of Rs 260 crores despite all constraints due to COVID-19 pandemic jolt.
This year also Eastern Railway has already achieved the scrap disposal valued Rs 53.12 crore upto July 13 as against Rs.9.07 crore earned during the corresponding period of last year.
The basic objective of selling scrap is to boost up Railway earnings.
Scrap selling is a part of materials management and provides a genuine alternative source of earning from non-performing assets like scrap materials.
