EAM Jaishankar to visit Israel, says Israeli foreign ministry

New Delhi : External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will be visiting Israel, the Israeli foreign ministry has announced in a tweet.

Alon Ushpiz, the Director-General of the Israel Foreign Ministry, in a tweet announced the upcoming visit, while wishing Indians a Happy Dussehra on Friday.

“Shubho Bijoya/Happy Dussehra to all of you, on the eve of @DrSJaishankar’s important visit to Israel. India is a strategic partner and a very close friend,” he posted.

Naor Gilon, the new Israeli Ambassador in India, retweeted the tweet, and posted: ”We are excited to receive @DrSJaishankar in Israel.”

The visit, likely next week, would be the first high-level official visit post the coming to power of new Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennet in June this year.

Bennett, 49, leader of the right-wing Yamina party, came to power in June ending Benjamin Netanyahu’s 12-year hold on power.

In a tweet responding to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s congratulations on coming to power Bennett had said he was looking forward to working with PM Modi to further develop the “unique and warm relations” between the two democracies.
