CPI(M) Central Committee member MC Josephine dies

Central Committee member and former All India Democratic Women Association (AIDWA) VIce President MC Josephine died of cardiac arrest in a private hospital here on Sunday. She was 74 and is survived by son Manu Mathai. Her husband P A Mathai, former trade union leader, died in 2020. Josephine, former Chariperson of State Women Commission (SWC) suffered a heart attack and collapsed at the venue of the 23rd Party Congress at EK Nayanar Academy hall around 1700 hrs on Saturday. Volunteers rushed her to AKG hospital and had been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit. She died around 1300 hrs on Sunday. CP(M) General secretary Sitaram Yechury, Chief Minister PInarayi Vijayan, Polit Bureau members and other national leaders condoled the demise of Josephine She also served as the Chairperson of the Women Commission from May-2017 to June-2021 and resigned from the post following a controversy over a live television programme. She served as President of the State Ware Housing Corporation Employees Union (CITU), Municipal councilor of Angamaly. The body was kept at AKG Hospital mortuary and would be taken to Ernakulam in the evening, funeral function details have not been announced yet.
