Naveen Announces Cash Incentive for 7 Para Athletes

Bhubaneswar: Chief MinisterNaveen Patnaik today announceda cash incentive of Rs. 10 lakheach for the 7 para-athletes fromthe Odisha who will beparticipating in the Asian ParaGames scheduled to begin from
22nd October 2023. The AsianPara Games, will bring togetherelite para athletes from across the
continent, offering a platform tothem to showcase their dedicationand talent. Amongst the athletescompeting from Odisha will bereigning Paralympic goldmedallist, Pramod Bhagat. He willbe defending his gold medal in the
para badminton mixed single’sevent. In previous edition held inJakarta, Bhagat also secured a
bronze in men’s doubles. Otherpara-athletes from Odisha include,Jayanti Behera (para-athletics),Soundarya Kumar Pradhan(visually impaired chess), RakhalKumar Sethi, V Ramesh Rao,Prafulla Kumar Khandayatray,and Pujaswini Nayak (wheelchairfencing). Wishing the athletessuccess, the Chief Minister said,“We are immensely proud of our
para-athletes who have workedtirelessly to qualify for theprestigious Asian Para Games2022 in Hangzhou, China. Thepara-athletes are a testimony tohuman spirit and determination.I wish the them and the entireIndia contingent the very bestin their endeavour to bringlaurels to the country.”
