Dumanimail,16/3 : On Wednesday, Bhagwant Mann, the leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), was sworn in as Punjab’s Chief Minister. Mann was sworn in by Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit.
In Khatkar Kalan, the legendary independence fighter Bhagat Singh’s ancestral village, a massive swearing-in ceremony has been planned.
Mann had earlier sent out a video message inviting the people of the state to his inauguration, urging men to wear ‘basanti (yellow)’ turbans and women to wear yellow ‘dupatta (stole)’ for the occasion. Mann has begun to wear the yellow turban associated with Bhagat Singh.
In the recently concluded Punjab Assembly elections, the AAP won 92 seats, pushing most of its opponents to the margins.
In the 117-member Assembly, Congress won 18 seats. Mann, who contested from the Dhuri Assembly constituency in Sangrur district, won by 58,206 votes over Congress candidate Dalvir Singh Goldy.
