Bhagvad Gita not reason enough to make it mandatory in school syllabus : Owaisi

Hyderabad, Sep 20 (Dumanimail) A day after Karnataka Education Minister B C Nagesh said that the BJP government was mulling to teach Bhagavad Gita in schools and colleges from the current academic year across the state, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) President and Lok Sabha MP Asaduddin Owaisi on Tuesday said Bhagavad Gita may have inspired some to fight against British but that is not reason enough to make it mandatory in school syllabus.

Taking to Twitter, he said ‘While Sanghis were collaborating with Britishers, Muslim ulema fought Britishers, presumably inspired by Qur’an & Hadith.

Bhagvad Gita may have inspired some to fight against British but that isn’t reason enough to make it mandatory in school syllabus.’

In another tweet, Owaisi said ‘For Sangh, anything pertaining to Islam is “religious” but anything to do with Hinduism is “cultural/moral”.

Gita is a religious text. All religious texts have moral components. Not that Sanghis care, but religious instruction in govt & aided schools is banned by Article 28,’ he added.
