Odisha reports 69 covid deaths for eighth time, fatalities jump to 7562

Bhubaneswar : Odisha reported a record 69 covid deaths in the past 24 hours for the eighth time pushing the total fatalities in the state to 7562.

Health and Family Welfare department sources said 69 covid patients under treatment in ten districts succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours.

Cuttack district reported a maximum of 25 deaths followed by Jagatsinghpur( 21) and Dhenkanal( 8). These three coastal Odisha districts accounted for nearly 80 per cent of total deaths recorded in the state in the past 24 hours.

During the period 887 new infections were reported from 28 districts. They included 515 from the quarantine centres and 372 as local contact cases taking the total tally to 10,03,210 in the state.

Khordha districts registered the highest number of 323 positive cases followed by Cuttack ( 119) and Balasore (56). These three districts together reported 56 per cent of the total infections recorded in the past 24 hours.

Bolangir and Subrnapur districts in Western Odisha however, reported no covid positive cases during the period.

Official sources said on Tuesday 1035 covid patients were cured taking the total recoveries in the state to 9,87,360.

The Active cases further declined to 8226 while the test positive rate(TPR) in the state in the past 24 hours reported 1.29 per cent.

The state has been witnessing a test positivity rate of less than 2 per cent since July 31.

Sources said Khordha district recorded the highest TPR of 3.4 per cent in the past 24 hours while 22 districts in the state reported the TPR of less than 2 per cent.
