Puri : Simhaadwar Police today arrested one Sangram Dash, a priest of Baman temple, on the charge of molesting a minor girl in the temple and forwarded him to the court of sub-divisional judicial magistrate(SDJM).
The magistrate refused his bail plea and sent him to judicial custody.
According to reports a family from Hyderabad had come to Sri Jagannath temple for darshan yesterday. While visiting other temples in the complex they went yo Baman temple where the priest allegedly molested the eleven year old girl.
Simhadwar police yesterday registered a case under POCSO Act and detained the priest for questioning after the father of the girl lodged a complainant.
Apart from Sri Jagannath temple there are small temples of Mahalaxmi, Vimala, Mahakali, Surya, Saraswati, Sitala and temples of many other deities exists in the complex.
Their daily nitees are conducted by separate set of servitors.
Meanwhile CWC official conducted counseling of the victim and her statement was recorded before the family left Puri.
