New Delhi: With the lowpressurearea in the Bay of Bengalintensifying into a well-markedsystem on Saturday, the IMDforecast light to moderate rainfallin some areas of West Bengal andOdisha on October 23 and 24,the last two days of Durga puja.The low-pressure area formedover the Bay of Bengal became awell-marked low pressure and the
system is likely to intensifyfurther into a depression aroundOctober 22 (Sunday), the IMDsaid in a bulletin. “It is very likelyto intensify into a depression overwest-central Bay of Bengal byOctober 22 and thereafter likelyto move towards Bangladesh andadjoining West Bengal coasts,” anIMD spokesperson said.As the depression willintensify further during thesubsequent three days (onwardsOctober 23), there will be “verylight to light rain likely at one or
two places over coastal PurbaMedinipur, South 24 Parganas,Severe Cyclonic Storm (SCS) during October 22 evening. Taking to’X’, IMD said, “The Depression over SW Arabian Sea intensified intoDD about 880 km E-SE of Socotra (Yemen). To intensify into a CSover SW Arabian Sea during the next 12 hours and further intensifyinto a SCS in the evening of 22nd Oct. To cross Oman-Yemen coastsbet Salalah (Oman) & Al Ghaidah (Yemen).” Earlier, the weatherdepartment said that a low-pressure area over the southeast and theadjoining southwest Arabian Sea has developed into a depression. Thisis expected to intensify into a cyclonic storm by the morning ofOctober 21. It is also likely to intensify into a severe cyclonic stormby October 22 and would continue moving north-north-westwards
towards South Oman and adjoining Yemen coasts, it said.
