VP, PM remember Babu Jagjivan Ram on his birth 114th birth anniversary

New Delhi, Apr 5 (UNI): Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday paid tributes to freedom fighter and Dalit icon Babu Jagjivan Ram on his 114th birth anniversary.

The Vice-president in his tribute said that Jagjivan Ram’s achievements as a skilled administrator and politician also inspire the weaker sections of society.

“My tributes to the great freedom fighter, social reformer & astute administrator, Babu Jagjivan Ram Ji, on his birth anniversary today. He was a visionary leader who served the nation with distinction in various capacities,’ he tweeted.

Mr Modi said that the efforts of Babu Jagjivan Ram will always be a source of inspiration for the uplift of the underprivileged and deprived sections of society.

“A humble tribute to Babu Jagjivan Ram, a freedom fighter and a dominant advocate of social justice, on his birth anniversary. His efforts for the upliftment of the deprived and exploited sections of society would always be a source of inspiration.” Modi Tweeted in Hindi.

Jagjivan Ram, was popularly known as Babuji, he was a freedom fighter and politician from Bihar.

He was instrumental in the foundation of the All India Depressed Classes League, an organisation dedicated to attaining equality for untouchables.

Babu Jagjivan Ram holds a world record of being a parliamentarian for 50 years between 1936 and 1986. He was the Defence Minister of India during the India-Pakistan war of 1971. He also was the deputy prime minister of the country between 1977 and 1979.
