Vizag District administration fully geared up to face Cyclonic storm

Visakhapatnam : The Visakhapatnam district has geared up fully to face any emergency in view of cyclone storm ‘Gulab’, expected to cross North Andhra Pradesh-South Odisha Coasts around midnight on Sunday.

The administration has readied NDRF teams, rescue teams of Indian Coast Guard (ICG), Indian Navy and SDRF as a precautionary measure, according to officials here.

Besides appointing Constituency and Mandal level special officers for monitoring situation and taking precautionary measures, District collector Dr. A Mallikarjuna has cancelled leaves of all government employees.

The Collector asked Civil Supplies officials to ensure stocks of oils and gas available.

Instructions have been given to Panchayat Raj officials to provide drinking water to households despite storm without interruption, Mr Mallikarjuna told reporters here.

He said 24 hour control rooms were set up at various places including at the Collectorate.

The Collector asked the officers to visit their Mandals allotted to them and prepare an action plan as a precautionary measure.

Meanwhile, Greater Vizag Municipal Commissioner G.Srijana appealed to the people to be alert in the wake of heavy rains.

She cautioned the people to stay away from drains likely to flow heavily due to likely heavy rains.

Police officials interacted with the fishermen community in the fishermen villages and cautioned them about Cyclone.
