Tokyo : World No. 1 Vinesh Phogat went down to Vanesa Kaladzinskaya of Belarus in the quarter-finals of the 53kg freestyle wrestling event, here on Thursday.
Phogat was pinned by former World Champion Vanesa in her bout.
Earlier, Phogat won her opening round by defeating Sweden’s Sofia Magdalena 7-1.
Wrestler Anshu Malik lost her repechage round 2 to Olympic silver-medallist Valeria Kublova in the women’s freestyle 57kg category.
Valeria Kublova will now face Bulgaria’s Evelina Georgieva Nikolova in the bronze medal match.
On Wednesday, Anshu lost to Belarus’ Iryna Kurachkina in the 1/8 Final event. Iryna defeated Anshu 8-2 to advance in the quarter-finals and later into the final which gave the Indian the chance for repechage.
Now, India will hope that Vanesa makes to the Finals and Phogat gets chance to compete in repechage and subsequently for Bronze medal.
