Tokyo : India’s Neeraj Chopra clinched the historic Olympic gold medal in the men’s javelin throw at the Tokyo 2020, here on Saturday.
Chopra threw a best of attempt of 87.58m to win the Olympic gold. With this, he became only the second individual Indian athlete after shooter Abhinav Bindra to win the Olympic gold medal.
The gold medal is also India’s first Olympic medal in track-and-field events.
Neeraj’s medal took India’s medal count at Tokyo 2020 to seven – making it their best-ever haul at a single Olympics.
Czech Republic’s Jakub Vadlejch won silver and fellow Czech Vitezslav Vesely won bronze medal.
