Thousands pay tribute to 'King' Warne

Thousands pay tribute to ‘King’ Warne

An enormous crowd of over 50,000, including family, former cricketers and Hollywood stars, paid tribute to the legendary Australian spinner Shane Warne at a memorial service held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Wednesday. Warne, 52, tragically died due to a suspected heart attack, while on holiday in Thailand on March 4. Tens of thousands of people, including the likes of Warne’s former captains Allan Border and Mark Taylor, Sir Elton John, former England captain Nasser Hussain. Warne’s family paid touching tributes to the King of Spin at the MCG. A number of Warne’s other Australian team-mates, bowler Glenn McGrath, wicket-keeper Adam Gilchrist and ex-captain Steve Waugh, were also in the audience, along with Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, according to BBC. Hollywood actors and musicians, including Kylie Minogue, Hugh Jackman and Greg Norman, also offered tributes to Warne. The service ended with the unveiling of The Shane Warne Stand by Warne’s children – Summer, Jackson and Brooke in the memorial service.
