The Indian cricket team’sselection committee has neverbeen away from criticism andthe MSK Prasad-led panel was
no exception. The teamselection during the 2019 ODIWorld Cup put the committeeunder scanner as it dropped an
experienced player AmbatiRayudu, India’s number 4batter, and included all-rounderVijay Shankar in the squadinstead. Gautam Gambhir, whilecommentating during the Indiavs New Zealand 2023 CricketWorld Cup match inDharamsala on Sunday, criticised the MSK Prasad-ledpanel by calling it the “worstselection committee”.
“It was the worst selectiocommittee in Indian cricket’history. The reason is that youdrop a batsman like Ambati
Rayudu, and don’t take him tothe World Cup and takesomebody else, even when thenumber four position was your
biggest concern,” Gambhir saidon Star Sports.”You played Ambati Rayuduthe entire year and dropped him
before World Cup and nobodyknows the reason” he added.Talking about the game, Indiaskipper Rohit Sharma won thetoss and elected to bowl in theirWorld Cup match against NewZealand on Sunday.India made two changes,
bringing in Suryakumar Yadavand Mohammed Shami in placeof Hardik Pandya, whosustained an ankle injury in the
match against Bangladesh earlierthis week, and Shardul Thakur.Meanwhile, New Zealandfeatured an unchanged XI.
