Chandigarh : After rewriting history by Indian men’s hockey team in Olympics as they claimed a bronze after 41 years, defeating strong team of Germany with 5-4, Punjab Sports and Youth Services Minister Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi on Thursday announced that Punjab government would bestow state hockey players with Rs 1 crore each.
Rana Sodhi tweeted, “On this historic day for #IndianHockey, I am delighted to announce a cash award of Rs 1 crore each to players from #Punjab. We await your return to celebrate the much deserving medal in #Olympics.”
He said, “It was absolutely gripping Match! Our boys have done it in Tokyo Olympics 2020 and bringing an Olympic medal home after 41 years. India and Punjab is proud of this Brilliant Team Play.”
The Minister said that out of total 20 players from Punjab, 11 players are in the Indian hockey team.
Meanwhile, Shiromani Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Bibi Jagir Kaur has announced to award Rs one crore to the Indian hockey team. She said the SGPC will also award Rs five lakh each to all players of Punjab who are participating in Olympic.
