President stresses for providing equal opportunities to girls in every field

Lucknow : President Ram Nath Kovind on Friday said it is necessary to protect daughters and provide them equal opportunities in every field for their all-round development.

The President’s comments came while addressing the concluding ceremony of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of the Captain Manoj Kumar Pandey UP Sainik School, here.

The President said he was happy to note that this School is the first Sainik School which started providing education to girls.

“On Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the admission of girls in all Sainik Schools of the country, but in Captain Manoj Pandey UP Sainik School, Lucknow, the admission of girls had already started three years back,” the President said.

Mr Kovind said that it will become the first Sainik School in the country where daughters will appear in the NDA exam this year. “This school along with the heroes will now give the bravehearts to the Indian Army through NDA,” he said.

The President further lauded the state of Uttar Pradesh for making great strides in the field of education.

He said recently, the foundation stone of a new Sainik School was laid in Gorakhpur. In the budget for the year 2021-22, arrangements have been made to open 100 new Sainik Schools in the country.

The President also said that Major Dhyan Chand, Flying Sikh Milkha Singh and recently Neeraj Chopra created history when a player takes a “military spirit” to the field.

Earlier, President Kovind laid the foundation stone for construction of Boys and Girls Hostel to increase the capacity of the Sainik School from 450 to 900 students. Apart from this, Dr. Sampoornanand Auditorium with a capacity of 1000 people was also inaugurated.

UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on the occasion said that Captain Manoj Pandey Sainik School, Lucknow has added a new dimension.

“This school is setting a paradigm day by day in many ways. The founder of this school, the former Chief Minister, Late Sampurnanand, had envisaged in the 1960s that there should be Sainik Schools. Even after this, the country had to enter the war in 1962. At that time it was the politician who had foresighted that the country would need it,” he said.

“This Sainik School is the first Sainik School which decided in 2018 that we will make it mandatory for girls to enter it. So that half of the population does not feel neglected. I am grateful to PM Narendra Modi and the Government of India that now girls are allowed to enter Sainik Schools. Education cannot only mean the knowledge of books but we can create maximum positivity in the citizen, how can we make every citizen creative. I think Sainik School is the best medium for this,” Yogi Adityanath said.

He said that our government has resolved that the country needs Sainik Schools. “Not only for the army but also for the internal security of the country, we can prepare skilled soldiers and give them to the country. We realized this vision and laid the foundation stone of the fifth Sainik School of this state in Gorakhpur,” he said while adding that as soon as our government took over, the Uttar Pradesh Sainik School in Lucknow was named after Captain Manoj Pandey, the hero of Kargil war in 2017 and paid respect to that national hero.

“We decided in 2018 itself that girls should also be admitted to Sainik Schools. The Prime Minister of the country, Narendra Modi has also envisioned the same. Under his guidance, the work of realizing the form of women empowerment is being done. In these Sainik Schools, the structure of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat is continuously moving forward. Thank you for the time His Excellency has given his time in the celebration of this Diamond Jubilee today. This is the first such Sainik School in the country which is being run by the state government,” CM added.

UP Governor Anandiben Patel along with couple of state ministers too participated in the programme.
