Chennai,Popular playback singer and actor Manicka Vinayagam passed away in Chennai on Monday following a cardiac arrest. He was 78.He is the youngest son of famous Bharatanatyam teacher Vazhuvoor B. Ramiah Pillai.Vinayagam made his debut as a playback singer with the song ‘Kannukulla Kelathi’ in Vikram’s “Dhill” in 2001.Manicka was known to Tamil cinema fans as a singer who brought in the rustic flavours.Some of his popular tracks are “Manmadha Raasa’” (Thiruda Thirudi), “Subbamma Subbamma” (Roja Kootam), and “Kattu Kattu” (Thirupachi).He acted in films like “Thiruda Thirudi”, “Vettaikaran”, “Santosh and Subramaniam”.He has sung more than 800 songs in various languages including Tamil. He has also acted in character roles in several films.Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin visited his residence and paid homage. He also offered his deepest condolences to the bereaved family members.
