PM to lay foundation stone of Dhaulasidh project

Hamirpur (HP) : Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who will visit Mandi in Himachal Pradesh on December 27 on completion of four years of the state’s BJP government, will lay the foundation stone of the 66 MW Dhaulasidh power project that day.

It will come up on River Beas between Sujanpur and Nadaun in Hamirpur district.

When PK Dhumal was the Chief Minister, he prepared the DPR of the project in November 2008 and sent it to the Center for approval. But due to the change of power, work on this project was suspended.

The revised DPR was approved with the intervention of Anurag Thakur, the Union Information Broadcasting Minister, and approved for a sum of Rs 690 crore.

Work on diverting the Beas river has also started at a fast pace. The project will be ready by May 2025.

The main dam will be built on the Beas river along with the Dholsidh temple, whose height will be 69.75 meters. The power house will be built near the temple and construction work on a tunnel to divert the Beas river is going on a war footing. The 253-meter tunnel will be ready by January 2022.

Himachal will get free electricity due to the construction of Dhaulasidh project, while 1,000 people of Hamirpur district will get employment.

Rajesh Chandel, head of Dhaulasidh project, said Modi will lay the foundation stone online from Mandi on December 27.
