PM Modi spoke to CM Mamata & assured all possible help to mitigate flood situation in Bengal

Kolkata : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday had a telephonic talk with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and assured all possible support from the Centre to mitigate the situation arising out of flooding in major parts of south Bengal districts triggered by heavy rains and discharging of water from dams by the DVC.

Meanwhile, Ms Banerjee, while blaming the DVC for the current flooding in parts of Howrah, Hooghly, Medinipur and other districts for unregulated discharge of waters from the dams, postponed her Khanakul visit in the Hooghly as she was forced to return from halfway as the roads were submerged.

She told reporters at Amta that the flooding was caused due to discharge of water from Dams by the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC).

“This is man made flood and the flooding is caused due to discharge of water. I told the PM that the DVC is discharging water without consulting and the canals need to be cleared from muds and debris”.

Prime Minister Mr Modi had called the CM and enquired about the flood situation across the state.

“PM Nnarendra Modi spoke to WB CM Mamata Banerjee on the flood situation caused by water discharge from dams in parts of the state. The PM assured all possible support from the Centre to help mitigate the situation. PM Modi prays for the safety and well being of those in affected areas,” a PMO twitter account confirmed.

Ms Banerjee said she had a plan to visit Khanakul and examine the situation there but she could not make it due to bad road conditions owing to water logging.

Hundreds and thousands people have been affected and rendered homeless due to the current flood situation in the districts of East Bardhaman, West Bardhaman, West Medinipur, Hooghly, Howrah and South 24 Parganas and North 24 Parganas.
