Hyderabad : AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Monday said that he was denied permission to meet gangster and former MP, Atique Ahmed in Sabarmati Central Jail in Ahmedabad by the BJP Government in Gujarat.
It may be mentioned here that the gangster and former Lok Sabha member from Uttar Pradesh, Atique Ahmed has been shifted to the high-security section of Sabarmati Central Jail in Ahmedabad in June 2019 following his alleged involvement in the kidnapping and assault of a businessman while he was incarcerated in a prison in Uttar Pradesh.
In April, 2019, the Supreme Court had directed that Atique , a former MP from Phulpur in UP, be shifted to a high-security jail in Gujarat after he was accused of orchestrating the kidnapping and assault on a real estate businessman, Mohil Jaiswal, while in jail.
The Hyderabad Lok Sabha MP, who reached Ahmedabad this morning and was scheduled to go to the Sabarmati Central Jail to meet Atique, who joined the AIMIM recently.
At the last minute, the permission for the meeting was denied by Central Prison Superintendent citing COVID Pandemic, according to the party release here.
Mr Owaisi was accompanied by Aurangabad Lok Sabha MP, Imtiyaz Jaleel, AIMIM Gujarat Unit Chief Sabir Kabliwala and Ex Mayor, GHMC and Incharge of Uttar Pradesh Majid Hussain.
The gangster, who is accused in more than 100 criminal cases, had filed his nomination from the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, but he later withdrawn.
The AIMIM Chief recently announced that his party will contest around 100 seats in the coming 2022 assembly poll in UP and defeat the Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government.
