OHRC seeks report on BJB College suicide case

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) on Saturday took suo Motu cognizance over the issue of death of a college girl student of BJB Autonomous College due to ragging by seniors. The OHRC issued notice to the
Commissioner of Police Bhubaneswar- Cuttack to submit a report on the issue. Taking a serious view of the matter, the Commission asked the Commissionerate of Police to submit a status report of the inquiry along with the report in a sealed cover by the next date of hearing on July 19 next. The Commission said it has come across news report in electronic and print media about the suicide of a plus three Arts first year girl student in BJB Autonomous college
Bhubaneswar. It appears from the suicide note that the death occurred due to ragging in hostel inside the BJB Autonomous college campus, the Commission said and took suo Motu cognizance. It said Tejeswar Parida has filed a
letter in March last year on behalf of Ragging Free Campus ABHIYAN organisation Parida submitted that another case has been filed by RFCA before the Commission in 2021 where the Commission has called for a report from the Chief Secretary to the Odisha government.
