Odisha Cabinet Approves 11.25% Reservation for SEBC Students in Higher Education

Bhubaneswar,  : In a landmark decision aimed at enhancing inclusivity in higher education, the Odisha State Cabinet has approved an 11.25% reservation for Socially and
Educationally Backward Classes (SEBC) students in state public universities, government colleges, and aided higher secondary institutions. Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi announced the decision post the cabinet meet at Lok Seva Bhawan on Wednesday. The new policy, set to take effect from the 2025-26 academic year, ensures that reservation percentages remain standardised across all institutions. This move aligns with the principles of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, focusing on equitable access and increasing the Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) among marginalised communities. The revised framework introduces uniform reservation quotas:
Scheduled Tribes (22.5%), Scheduled Castes (16.25%), SEBC (11.25%), Persons with
Disabilities (5%), and ExServicemen (1%). With this policy, Odisha aims to bridge socio-economic disparities, fostering greater participation of SEBC students in higher education
