NIA conducts multiple raids in Kashmir, arrests 5 persons

Srinagar : The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Sunday conducted multiple raids across Jammu and Kashmir and arrested five persons in connection with a terror funding case.

Official sources said that NIA sleuths, assisted by J&K Police and paramilitary forces, raided over half-a-dozen locations in Anantnag, Srinagar and Baramulla districts in the valley in the wee hours of Sunday. “Five persons, four from Anantnag and one from Srinagar, have been arrested during the raids so far,” they added.

They said raids at some places were still on. “Five accused were arrested in connection with the radicalisation of youth in the Indian subcontinent that was filed 10 days ago,” the officials sources further added.

The case pertains to online radicalisation and links with foreign shores are being investigated, they said.

The raids come a day after 11 government employees from Kashmir, including two sons of Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin, were sacked for their alleged involvement in terror-funding activities. The services of these employees were terminated under Article 311(2)(c) of the Constitution, under which no inquiry is held. The action was taken following a recommendation by a designated committee in the Union Territory for looking into such cases.
